This Privacy Policy explains how breakbread ("breakbread", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the breakbread mobile app and related services (the "Service").

## 1. Information We Collect

### 1.1 Information You Provide
- **Account information**: If you sign in with Apple, we may receive your Apple user identifier and profile details you choose to share.
- **Profile and payment handles**: Information such as display name, Venmo username, Cash App username, and party member names/phone numbers you enter.
- **Receipt content**: Receipt photos/files you upload for scanning and any edits you make to extracted line items, tax, and fees.
- **Support communications**: Information you send to us when contacting support.

### 1.2 Information From Device Features (with Permission)
- **Contacts**: Used only to help you add party members faster.
- **Camera and Photos/Files**: Used only for receipt capture/import.
- **Notifications**: Used to send bill reminder notifications if you enable reminders.

### 1.3 Purchase Data
- If you subscribe to breakbread+ through Apple In-App Purchase, transaction handling is performed by Apple. We receive only the information needed to validate entitlement status in the app.

## 2. How We Use Information

We use information to:
- Provide bill-splitting features (party setup, item assignment, totals, reminders).
- Process receipt images and extract line items.
- Improve scan quality and product reliability.
- Enable optional subscription features.
- Maintain app security and prevent abuse.
- Comply with legal obligations.

## 3. Receipt OCR and AI Processing

breakbread may process receipt images using:
- On-device OCR (Apple Vision), and/or
- Third-party AI providers (for example OpenAI and Anthropic) when configured.

If third-party OCR is used, receipt image data and extracted text may be transmitted to those providers to perform the scan. We recommend users avoid uploading receipts containing unnecessary sensitive information.

## 4. How We Share Information

We do **not** sell your personal information.

We may share information only:
- With service providers that help operate the app (e.g., OCR/AI processing, subscription infrastructure).
- When you intentionally share payment requests or split summaries via iMessage/share sheet/Venmo/Cash App links.
- If required by law, legal process, or to protect rights/safety.

## 5. Data Storage and Retention

- Split history, saved parties, and related records are primarily stored locally on your device.
- We retain data only as long as needed for the purposes in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

## 6. Your Choices and Rights

You can:
- Revoke Contacts/Camera/Photos/Notification permissions in iOS Settings.
- Edit or delete split data in the app.
- Use the in-app **Delete Account** option (for signed-in users), which removes locally stored app data and signs you out on that device.

## 7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If third-party providers process data in other countries, your information may be transferred and processed outside your region, subject to applicable safeguards.
